歌曲《We Are the World》（中文译名《天下一家》）由迈克尔·杰克逊（Michael Jackson）和莱昂纳尔·里奇（Lionel Richie）于1985年创作。
当时埃塞俄比亚和苏丹的食物短缺、饥荒消息震惊了迈克尔·杰克逊和莱昂纳尔·里奇，两人决定合作创作歌曲以援助难民。
迈克尔·杰克逊和莱昂纳尔·里奇花费四天时间作曲，其中里奇先完成一部分，杰克逊灵感迸发，一夜之间写好全曲；之后两人又用两个半小时完成歌词，力求简单易学以便广泛传播。
制作人昆西·琼斯（Quincy Jones）受邀负责项目，1985年1月28日（全美音乐奖颁奖典礼结束后），45位美国顶级歌手齐聚洛杉矶A&M录音室，通宵录制了这首歌曲。
歌曲通过单曲销售、版权收入等方式，最终为非洲及美国本土的饥荒救济筹集了超过6000万美元的善款。
