To the Tune of Water Melody"· Mourning Truck Driver Mr Xu and Saluting the Four Righteous Ones
The waning moon o'er Bin Inn dimly gleams,
Stars fall upon Shaanxi's plains, it seems.
Sudden ill news breaks through the dreamer's rest—
His mortal frame departs in smoky mist.
Where lies his home, a thousand miles away?
Only the mourning banner points west, darkly sway,
While tearful rain drenches the land of Qin.
His travelling bag holds naught of worth—
His aged mother leans against the doorpost, waiting still.
Startled by tidings dire,
They harness wagons, raise the flag of righteous fire.
They sweep the dust, wipe stains of blood away,
Three long blasts of the horn echo through hills, ridge on ridge.
No reckoning of gain or loss—they share the toll and bridge,
Through perils steep and shallow, hand in hand they stay.
Their loyal hearts illuminate the world of men.
Deep, deep along the ruts their wheels have trod,
There lies Great Righteousness, on this earthly sod.
